24-Hour Hillary Sexism Watch: WaPo blogger suggests shock collar
Washington Post blogger Joel Achenbach has an interesting idea for controlling uppity women:
Clinton fought back, but she needs a radio-controlled shock collar so that aides can zap her when she starts to get screechy.
Thanks Joel, for doing the work of marking yourself as a misogynist so I now know never to read anything else you write. Shameful.

Sheesh. I'm not a Hilary supporter, but that's just unbelieveably wrong. Worst part is I'm sure Joel thought he was being funny or cute. What a fucking asshat.
Hillary's campaign has brought out such obvious and such pernicious sexism that I feel a little short of breath I'm so angry. That guy with the "Iron My Shirts" sign? Can you imagine if someone had gone to an Obama rally with a sign that said "Pick My Cotton?" Hillary was forced to laugh at it, Obama would not have been expected to.
ok...not surprised there's a jerk blogging.
But he works for the Washington Post?????
I'm with Erin. What the hell is going on? Is there a contest going on to see who's the "best" sexist in America or something?
not to defend joel's blog -- he was point-blank wrong on his prediction regarding the primary, and he's rather a blowhard -- but the part that followed the section you highlight compares HRC to Howard Dean's screechiness.
thanks for the heads up. left some snark in his comments just for fun (using the name "yousuck").
To missmclovin above: The screeching part is just as bad as the shock collar part. Think what you will of HRC, aren't you tired of the schmucks like Joel painting women with strong opinions as screechers? Dean did screech; as in, he did this high-pitched, yell-type-thing. HRC, on the other hand, has not screeched on the campaign trail. What she's done is have strong opinions while also having a vagina. Despite what people say, that's not the same thing as screeching.

uuugh. commenting snafu. sorry for the repeats.
It makes me sick to see all this misogyny coming out of the woodwork. To have this even be published, I assumed it had to go past an editor, it still got published? Yeah, violence against "uppity" women is SO hilarious!
Combine reading these recent posts with the fact I'm watching Maury Povich: Abusive, controlling husbands (I only get TV reception on one channel in my apartment) I'm about ready to spit nails. I hope no one comes within earshot of me, lest they get a huge, uncalled for tirade about sexism and politics.
Can we put one of those around his penis and shock him whenever he makes a sexist comment?
Now, you all have validated my rant against the MSM when I say that it is far right, pro-men propaganda.
I hardly ever read the Washington Post, so I only got word of this from Elaine.
And Liza, no. We shouldn't be advocating sexism in any way against women or men. We are better than that. We shouldn't stoop to the misogynists' level.
Given how comfy much of our political class has become with torture, i'm not surprised that this type of language comes readily to such knuckle draggers.
Wow, I just...I'm utterly boggled that anyone could suggest something like that. ^^;;
Another ounce of naivete bites the dust, I guess. ^^;;
wow. I can't believe that statement made it into print (I can believe that a man thought it). Just goes to show that sexist thought is so pervasive that no one thought twice about printing it.
Your 24 hour sexism watch has been quite interesting (and sad).
The difference is that Howard Dean really did get screechy and that Hillary never has.
I know it sounds trite, and I doubt I will change many minds, but you are taking Joel Achenbach's comments out of context. Regular readers of Joel's Washington Post Blog, "The Achenblog" know that Joel is about as far from a misogynist as one can get. Further, if anything, his typical approach to Senator Clinton has been approval bordering upon boosterism.
Joel's blog is a unique mixture of silly humor and serious analysis. This makes it ripe for misinterpretation.
Yes, this particular quote sounds mean-spirited in isolation, but Joel really isn't the enemy.
