Nellie did this live on Fresh Air the other night. It was the beginning of the interview and I didn't listen to the rest because Terry Gross drives me up the wall. But Nellie rocks my socks off.
Terry Gross is freaking awesome! She, Ira Glass, and Michelle Martin are like my NPR heroes.
Listen to the rest of the songs on the show. Nellie has a really great voice, and her songs are freaking hilarious. I personally loved "Manhattan Avenue" and the zombie one she sung at the very end (I couldn't get it out of my head). I really like her live performance versus the CD version.
when i first listened to this cd back when it'd just come out, my jaw dropped. this is the first track, and i was so amped when i heard it i ran around all day playing it for my friends. pretty rad.
i'm still trying to figure out the dennis kucinich dis at the end, though?
I loves Nellie McKay. All of her music is subversive and intelligent, and I'm pretty sure she writes all of the lyrics, music, and plays all of the instruments. I would suggest the following songs to anyone who is interested in further listening. (My personal favorites):
David
Change the World
Ding Dong
Cupcake

Nellie McKay is so great. I don't have this album -- my friend said it wasn't as good as her first two, but I might get it now.
