God forgave him, why can't you?

When we find out about Senators that have historically been pro-"family", pro-DOMA, pro-war, anti-choice, anti-immigration and ignorant about what happened post-Katrina in their OWN state, we have to forgive them for little things like, a prostitute habit? David Vitter, Jr Senator from Louisiana spoke out again this morning saying he is sorry for his connection to the DC Madam, among others. Well I would just like to say, sorry to you too, but it just doesn't work like that. We over here will in fact revel in every piece of evidence we find of your hypocrisy and have it add the general belief that wing-nuts are totally and completely full of shit.

Speaking for the first time since he acknowledged a connection to the so-called D.C. Madam a week ago, Senator David Vitter of Louisiana appeared briefly before reporters here Monday to apologize again and attack “political enemies he said had spread falsehoods about him.

Mr. Vitter dropped out of public view a week ago after admitting that his phone number had appeared in a list of clients’ numbers kept by Deborah Jeane Palfrey, who is accused of running a prostitution ring in Washington. He missed major votes on Iraq in the Senate and made no public appearances, even as accounts of other relationships with prostitutes multiplied in the New Orleans news media.

After his initial apology, a woman convicted of running a brothel on Canal Street said Mr. Vitter had been a client, and another woman, identified by The New Orleans Times-Picayune as a prostitute named Wendy Cortez, came forward to say that she, too, had had a relationship with him when the senator was in the State Legislature in the 1990s.

And his wife stood in solidarity with him saying although their relationship isn't perfect, but they choose to work together as a family. Because what family values actually means is to defend the actions of your husband--no matter what--for the service of this great nation and probably much to your discontent.

Earlier, Mr. Vitter said he thought he had “received forgiveness from God for his ties to Ms. Palfrey’s service, and he took a swipe at those who have accused him of hypocrisy. Mr. Vitter’s political career has been in large part based on a strong conservative “family values stand.

He insisted he was “committed to trying to live up to the important values we believe in.

“If continuing to believe in and acknowledge those values causes some to attack me because of my past failings, well, so be it, he said.

Yeah dude, whatever.

Here's a pretty interesting article about what his wife said a few years ago about what would happen if she found out her husband cheated on her:

In 1999, after designated House Speaker Rep. Bob Livingston, R-La., abruptly resigned after disclosures of numerous affairs, Vitter successfully ran to succeed him representing suburban New Orleans.

Asked whether she could forgive her husband after an extramarital affair, as Livingston's wife had done, Wendy Vitter told the Times-Picayune: "I'm a lot more like Lorena Bobbitt than Hillary [Clinton]. If he does something like that, I'm walking away with one thing, and it's not alimony, trust me."

Did God call him up and say "It's all good"?

I guess if you screw up, just pretend god says you're good then maybe act surprised when you actually have to be accountable for your actions. I absolutely loathe using religion to justify things that are wrong.

His wife and that prostitute share the same first name. Man, that's awkward, but not as awkward as having to explain why you preach family values but pay women for extra-marital sex. Just ask Ted Haggart.

Schadenfreude is the best type of humor.

Long time reader, first time poster, pissed the hell off. I live in New Orleans, so I've been watching this very closely. And FUCK YOU David Vitter. He rose on the platform of hate speech, anti-gay rights, anti-choice, etc. and I have never been so happy to see someone humiliated. How dare he, and his bitch wife, think they can make some half-assed apology and all is fine! After her snarky high and mighty comments regarding Hillary in the Lewinski scandal? Fuck them. I hope their life IS hell, now. Judgmental assholes, all. And yeah, yeah, poor kids. As usual, the innocent ones suffer. Family values my ass!
And furthermore, what about the fact that hiring prostitutes is *illegal*? I could give fuck-all about the "moral" issue normally, if it weren't for the fact that he has forced his warped version of "morality" onto all his constituents. Oh, but God says it's all ok, no matter that he's an agent of the law, and must therefore uphold those. I want to tar and feather him.

Sorry my first ever post if pure vitriol, but I have been just seething at this for a week now.

And...breathe.

(hee, glad I hit Preview first, as I'd typed "Lebowski" scandal up there.
"He treats objects like women, man!")

Even still, it's just going to wash right off of them isn't it? As they are the Do As I Say and Not As I Do party. Had these been members of the Democratic party a la Clinton, they would have had a field day. However, Clinton was the president so I guess it'll take Bush having an affair or doing drugs in the white house before anyone in the MSM takes this seriously. You can kill all you want, you just can't have sex.

Jeremy-

Tedd Haggard is even worse! he is a total homophobe..was caught buying meth from a gay male prostitute.
He said the lord helped him not take the meth or do anything with the male prostitute....right.

psh
defending moral values?
how?
You know, its actually very believable to see a political figure be caught on "unmoral" things like these. Its really unfortunate to have a group of people representing us in government who are so fake. and i agree with Jeremy F. PSH FUCK YOU VITTER. You come here and try to take away our birth rights and cover up a "conservative" lifestyle. Oh im sorry, thats right GOD forgave you....so you are all ok now right...

He is only sorry because he got caught. He isn't sorry for what he did.
So abstinence is only if you aren't married. Once you're married the husband can just have a free for all with prostitutes?

Just another reason I DONT go to church (beside the fact that I'm an atheist) is that it's full of hypocrites. All these people thinking "You're going to hell cause you have sex and cause you had an abortion" but then turn around and say "Well I had sex outside of my marriage but me and God have spoken and I am still his blessed child". Mother fuckers. All of them.

At least he could make a consistent stand by advocating legalization of prostitution.

Now, for this audience, that suggestion may be controversial. At least it would be consistent with his actions.

Technically he never said that he had sex with the person he hired from the agency. It's only an "escort service," right? ;)

As a religious person, this pisses me off like no other. I was taught in Catholic school that those who are not guilty through their own conscience are not forgiven. He was SHAMED into admitting it, so he is NOT sorry. Most Christian faiths would say that he is not forgiven. In my opinion, this lame schmuck was not sorry, and would have kept doing it had it not been for some great investigators! Suck on that, conservatives!

It's stupid assholes like this that give everyone else a bad name. This guy doesn't have faith, this guy has a hard-on.

You know, normally I'm someone who says "as long as everyone's a consenting adult, I could care less who public figures do on their own time", but a.) Prostitution is still illegal, so he's outright broken the law and b.) I've read my Bible and God doesn't like hypocrites. Especially unrepentant hypocrites. "Oh, well I'm a good christian so when I sin I'm forgiven but when you sin, you're going to hell" bullshit. The forgiveness granted from a confession requires contrition and a repentant soul, and I don't believe this man has either. And I'm so sure God rang him up to let him know he was in the clear. Right. Asshole.

This reminds me of a postcard I saw on Postsecret once; the card said "I was pro-life before I had it done and I'm still pro-life after". I think it all goes back to the idea of not trusting other people that's been touched on here before. "Well, it's OK if I go to a prostitute, because I still have Christian values and care for my family, so God can forgive me, but not other people" or "I can have an abortion because I'm making the choice responsibly, but other people will just go nuts with it." Just a thought.

I saw that postsecret, too, and I found it incredibly hypocritical.

I'll practice godly ideals of forgiveness when I get to decide who goes to heaven and who goes to hell. Until then, I shall continue to point and laugh at hypocrites like this.

Didn't Haggard admit to getting a "massage" — talk about multiple interpretations — from the male prostitute he got his crank from? I seem to remember seeing something about that.

[0+|0-] Author Profile Page Al said:

At first Haggard claimed to only a massage, though soon after he came clean about the sex and doing meth "once".Then it was off to "gay to straight" therapy, coming out three short weeks later, and was said to be cured, thought by all professionals to be "completely heterosexual".

Sounds like the stupidest thing I've heard, but the ex gay movement claims requires that dynamic. As the high numbers of converts they do have, occur only because sexual orientation is never something to include homosexuality, instead it's viewed as a poorly developed heterosexual orientation, believed to be essential to all people, and "gay acting out", results from strictly behavior based issues of inappropriate relationships to a core masculinity.

Thus, they can "cure behavior " in three weeks, since making a simple choice to do or not do a certain behavior, is significantly easier than changing core orientation.

It was sweet of David to mention God, even going so far as to give God credit for the forgiveness David and Wendy (the wife Wendy) had granted David. David and Wendy did not say if God forgave the D.C. madame, but since they were being helpful to God and passing on his thoughts, I assume God did not forgive the D.C. madame. I suppose that makes sense because she has not said she is a Republican and God would therefore need to check with the woman who checked the religious and political credentials of assistant U.S. Attorneys. And God may not get anywhere, because executive privilege might stand in the way of full disclosure. But God knows David and Wendy are Republicans, so they were sweet to confirm to us that God forgave them and is still right with the Republican Party, USA. Thank you, David and Wendy Vitter. You should be proud.

Dostoyevsky wrote: if God does not exists, everything is allowed.

Guys like Vitter imply: God exists, so everything can be forgiven. What can an agnostic do? With no Satan to tempt and no God to forgive, he or she would better steer far for any brothels, drugs etc.

My first thoughts upon hearing about this guy were that we really need to reinstate taring and feathering as a punishment.

I could care less about politicians' sex lives, except for those who seem to care about my sex life.

I find it frustrating that the media and the Democrats aren't all over this one. You can bet the farm if it was a Democrat, the Republicans would be screaming bloody murder.
