I have some pictures up from backstage at The Colbert Report. So fun. Everyone who works on that show is frigging awesome and so nice.
Oh, and a big, huge, enormous thanks to Darcy, Brooke and the other folks at Seal Press for hooking it up, calming my nerves and picking up the tab for the great post-show dinner and drinks!

Oooh, what was in the gift bag?
Jessica, You did such a wonderful job on the Colbert Report. I am a new reader of your site. Cheers! (And thanks to broadstreet at Salon.com for sending me here, too.) Feminism for me has always been intimidating as I do not have a Women's Studies minor nor am I independently well read on the differing philosophies and theories. Thank you for making feminism universally approachable!!
Best of luck!
I tried to comment on your pics on Flickr, but I think they must be locked for friends only. I had the same question as Moxie: What was in the goody bag? [/nosy]
Also, they just provided you with water and soda? No bottle of champagne? ;-)
Oh, it was so nice. There was a bottle of Vodka, about a million tins of Altoids (all new flavors and weird chocolate covered ones), a free tattoo session at some place, a gift certificate for Rockford shoes, a gift certificate for a case of evian water, a necklace, a bag of food stuff and protein bar things from a new company, and some other stuff I don't remember...
OmG, a free tattoo session?! Awesome. LoL.
My mum loves the chocolate Altoids. She sends me the empty boxes b/c I make crafst out of them.
You were terrific! You kept on topic and didn't let Colbert rattle you. In fact, I think you rattled him. Well done. Be proud.
Jessica, did you get to meet Colbert before the actual interview? I'm just curious as to how he is when he's not on camera and in character -- In the midterm election issue of Rolling Stone, he was quoted saying that he usually warns his guests that he'll be an asshole in front of the cameras. Did you get a similar warning?
I don't know what you were so nervous about. You came out strong and made your points, you were funny and engaging and charming, you looked like you had that interview in the bag.
wow you were GREAT! Colbert seemed totally rattled by you, and despite claims of being nervous you sounded so intelligent and funny and cool. Well done!
I was disappointed in your reaction to the feminist stereotypes Colbert rattled off. There are lesbians and women who get pregnant using turkey basters who are feminists, and rather than agreeing with Colbert, I thought owning those descriptions (and the women who are lesbians ) would have been a more honest response. Isn't that the best way to disspell them? And then add "but that is not all that feminism is about...."
I, personally, think you did a great job on the Report. You came off as very calm, bright, and informed. More importantly, you did not get flustered by Colbert's interview style.
I just picked up your book yesterday, and I look forward to digging a bit more deeply into contemporary feminism. Thank you.
My dreams of global feminism are grandiose and, probably, even are pretentious. But the world condition demands today, that women became less modest and dreamt/planned/operated/risked in the big scales.
At the same time, representation about global vision can be reached only through a daily life and actions of women in region. All depends on how women decide to take destiny in hand, proclaim the right to this world and take on responsibility to make its best place for all.
As women will go to this purpose, improving the understanding and feeling the increasing communication with each other, we can tell, that the feminism has accepted a call and became global.
