Feminists for Colbert
Ever since Jane Fonda and Gloria Steinem gave Stephen Colbert a little "ice cream threeway", feminists have had a special place in their heart for Colbert. And now a new blog, Feminists for Colbert, makes it official.
And since it seems a bit serendipitous that the shirts featured on so much of the blog share a name with my book, I figured this would be a good time to mention that I'll actually be on The Colbert Report on June 5. (Giving me just enough to build up a puke-inducing amount of nervousness.)

OMG! that is so exciting!!!
So awesome!
THAT IS GREAT!! I shall mark it in my DVR:)
Those Full Frontal Feminism t-shirts have been available through the women's studies department of the College of Charleston for a while now, maybe year or more (?).
Can't wait to see you on the Colbert Report!!!!!!
That's awesome! I wish I had cable.
Congrats Jessica. I'm sure you'll do great :)
ahh that is awesome! congratulations. I'll be sure to watch! You'll do great.
Holy smack! You are a bona fide purveyor of famous feminism! You go!
I wish I had cable. :-S
I'm delurking, after reading this site for a long time, just to say Congratulations! You'll be great!
Thanks y'all! Much appreciated. I'm super excited about it...
Even if you don't have cable you will still be able to see a video clip of the Jessica interview at comedycentral.com. I usually watch the streaming video of yesterday's Colber(t) Repor(t) while I am at work, because the show is usually on cable too late for me to catch.
Since Colber(t) will be fakely antagonistic to you, I suggest wearing a T-shirt with a picture of a bear on the front of it to unnerve him during the interview (or just place a Teddy Bear on the table as protection).
That's so exciting!!! Good luck with the Colbert treatment!
By the way, has anyone seen the cnn.com front page article about the Iraqi woman on death row pleading that she is innocent?
Holy crap, that's awesome. How did the interview come about?
WOW! You go lady!
Congratulations!!!
The Report has been my favorite show since its debut. Steven Colbert is the funniest character on tv since Archie Bunker.
Here's the question my friends and I always wanted to ask him: if he's so afraid of bears, why does he further the bear agenda by pronouncing his name "cole-bear"?
And see if you can steal the microwave.
No, don't steal the microwave, because Faux Noise might claim you stole it from them, and then Bill O might send one of his minions (I mean producers) to stalk you, and trap you in a grocery store parking lot to pressure you into giving it back.
Jessica, congratulations!!! I definitely won't miss it!
Hokey smokes! That's fantastic news. (And I am a big fan of Colbert.)
There's an off-chance I might be in New York that day (I'm in New York the previous weekend); if I am, I'll see if I can get in the audience.
Sweet! Make sure to remind us closer to the actual date, I can't wait to watch it. I hope that you're coming up with some awesome comebacks in advance.
That's awesome! In bocca al lupo!
OMG THAT'S SO COOL! I wouldn't miss it for the world.
Congrats, Jessica! This is awesome.
On a related note, I just want to let you know that your book also appeals to feminist-minded men: I bought it last weekend, and my husband started reading it while we were in line for Spiderman. He finished it yesterday and gave a rave review.
if he's so afraid of bears, why does he further the bear agenda by pronouncing his name "cole-bear"?
Please, PLEASE ask this question.
Wow, that is absolutely kickass. I will definitely be watching! Huuuuuuge Colbert fan over here.
Any chance you can get on the Daily Show too? (^-^)
That just made my day ... a month ahead of time. I'm sure it made yours as well.
How did this come about?
Wow really? Congrats! You are going to have so much fun!!!
WOWIE =)
That is so exciting!
And what feminists WOULDN'T love Colbert...unless you really didn't get it, I guess. Ha ha. Make sure you give us a day-before reminder (though, I'd probably be watching anyway).
Oh wow, this is awesome. I'll have to make someone tivo it for me.
Congrats! Thanx for the heads
up- Think of it as fun- which
it should be- that might help quell the jitters.
w00t!!
How cool! Wow, I would be incredibly nervous.
That's so cool! Congratulations. Only one of my favorite shows ever. I can't wait to see your appearance.
awesome!
I am so happy ~ for you, for me, for all women and girls whose lives are safer, healthier and more hopeful because of you. I work everyday to tell people that the Women's Movement is alive and well. I send them to the bookstore, the magazine rack, the internet and, in particular, to Feministing.com. You are making inroads that we only dreamed of in the 80's & 90's. And its on Comedy Central ~ not 20/20. We are all so proud of you!
Holy shit! Way to rock it, Jessica! Can't wait to see you sitting across from that dashing man!
Congrats! Your resume is growing and I can't think of a more shining example of a young up-and coming progressive!
Good luck!
Whoa. That's exciting. Congratulations.
SO SO SO SO SO excited for you. I am so obsessed with Stephen Colbert.
Can someone please put the video on YouTube for us Colbert fans in England who don't get it over here?
!!!!!!!!
im sosososososo excited!!
i dont know if i can wait a whole month.
i know i'm late the party, but WORD to what's up there, kid.
congratulations, great work, can't wait to see b&n all sold out of your ish and can't wait to stay up late to see the comedy unfold.
Woo-hoo, very cool Jessica! Maybe the Full Frontal gals can send you a shirt. :) I hope you get to cook with Colbert like Steinem and Fonda did, that'd be neat! It's going to be so cool to see a blogger I love on Colbert (as opposed to the anti-"women's studies set" folks)!
Congrats Jessica -- I cannot wait to watch ya!! Go feminism!!
One other note, is it just me or is Jane Fonda a little weirdo on her segment with Colbert?
Jane Fonda is a little weirdo in that segment. It was creepy, even knowing the context.
My nominee for next feminist on the show is Tina Fey. That would be an amazing segment.
watch out though, you might not be his "type of feminist"
there's one show where he interviews a woman named caitlin flanagan who wrote a book about how all women should be subservient to their husbands and give up the "nooky" whenever men demand. colbert then proceeds to call her the 'perfect woman' :)
this lady is out there.... but her responses to colbert are actually quite witty (in that all-women-must-stay-in-the-kitchen type funny)
congrats! you on colbert is the best birthday present i could think of! i definitely agree that you're going to need a good bear t-shirt or something to get the edge on him. he's a genius. i love me some colbert.
If I can give you a teeeny bit of advice for your gig: you have to have fun with it. He's doing a character. He needs you to play off that to make it work. Plant your tongue into your cheek and enjoy it. The interviews that NEVER work is when the guest has too much of an agenda and can't realize that they're on a comedy show.
Break a leg sista.
