You have got to be kidding me
Remember the street "admirer" who was attacked by a group of women after he allegedly called them "dykes," spit on them, threw a cigarette at them, and grabbed one of the women by the throat? Well check out the oh-so-classy headline the New York Post came up with after the jump.

What else would you expect from the Post? I feel bad for anyone that reads that dreck.
And the "What the fuck award" goes to....The New York Post!!!
Actually, the OP can remove the words "allegedly" from her title. Most of it was caught on tape, the guy definitely provoked this.
While I dont condone violence, I think he had it coming. I dont stand out at the CBGB's shouting white trash to its patrons, nor do I grab their throats. If I did, I would expect a beat down promptly.
He counted on a female stereotype to avoid paying for his behavior. Too bad for him stereotypes are a urban legend, nothing more.
lol,
they're referred to as a "seething sapphic septet" later on.
i'm not even mad, i'm impressed.
So wait, are they lesbians?
" When they rebuffed his advances - telling him he wasn't their type - he began calling them "f- - -ing dykes," they say. He then spat on them, threw a cigarette at them, and even grabbed one of them by the throat - which, like much of the melee, was caught on an IFC video security camera.
"I'll f- - - you straight, sweetheart," he told defendant Venice Brown, 19, before choking her, her lawyer, Michael Mays, told jurors. "
Umm we do know exactly what happened on this case.
While their response may seem harsh, he threw his cigarette at them. That has the intention of causing harm, since it was lit, and could potentially blind someone had it been flicked hard enough, and hit someone's eye. (Ive never heard of a non-lit cigarette being flicked at someone)
He choked someone. Come on. Why do you choke a person or an animal? To cause death or severe injury.
I would shoot someone if I saw someone choking my husband or child, regardless of any insults or the like.
Would I be in the wrong? I dont know. But if I didnt have a gun, I would have at least stabbed him several times to immobilize him, maybe with a tint a passion behind it since I saw my family hurt.
I think its wrong they are in jail. Call me whatever for thinking they didnt commit a crime, but it is completely fucking sensible what they did.
i don't think that it's right to physically assault someone regardless of what horrible things they say to you. if, however, he did in fact put his hands around one of these women's throats, i'd say that what they did was completely justified. they should feel damn lucky that one of them had a knife and be congratulated for fighting back and defending themselves.
What the fucking hell? And check this out -- the first two sentences of that article are as follows:
"One of them was "slightly pretty," so the freelance film director decided to say hi.
Next thing he knew, he was encircled, beaten and knifed in the gut right there on a Greenwich Village sidewalk - by seven bloodthirsty young lesbians."
This is not them quoting anyone, this is an assertion being made by the article writer. But then, later on [emphasis mine]:
When they rebuffed his advances - telling him he wasn't their type - he began calling them "f- - -ing dykes," they say.
Okay. Anyone see any inconsistency here...??
It could have been worse: they could have used obscure 40s film noir slang and it would have been titled "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes"
these women are facing prison time for defending themselves? fuck THAT.
Jesus. What a fucked up article. So, he chokes one of them, but they're on trial for their response?
Well, if recent events are any indication, we can at least look forward to commenters like Raging Moderate and Tom should be here any second to express their outrage about the ways these women are being unfairly treated, right?
*holds breath*

*GASP*
Huh.
Maybe I shouldn't do that.
OMG roymac, you rule.
I thought the "seething sapphic septet" was pretty awesome, too. Bwahahaha.
But making out like the women tried to kill this creep for saying "hi"? WTF?
Isn't that a 1970s B movie?
I'm all too aware of the standard m.o. for street harassers in New York. There's no way that he was just trying to say "hi."
That really is a pathetic excuse for a headline. And as for the case in question, its just plain common sense. Dont play with fire. Dont towel whip a lion in the gonads. Dont piss off strangers for no reason. The list goes on.
How about "pisshead gets righteous arse kicking". Hows that work, eh?
Perhaps this group of Newark lesbians has internalized the lesson that Sakia Gunn learned in 2003.
Given the unrecognized trauma of that event, it doesn't seem a terribly unreasonable way to respond.
I am shocked and appalled, hasn't anyone ever heard of the term self defense. I'm just glad that they were in a group. Who knows what could have happened if there were just a few of them, ore only one. . .
hahahahaha. roymac, you rule :)
I third the roymac love. Nearly every time he comments I do a little "Amen!" for the good men in this world.
"Don't towel whip a lion in the gonads."
ha, god, between roymac and Phlegmatic, i might just suffocate trying to laugh without getting nasty your-in-the-library looks...complete bullshit about those women, though, but maybe if women roved in large armed groups and attacked with provokation, i could get gas and a drink at 7-11 without getting creeped out by a greek chorus of fat, drunk bubbas...i still can't believe they're being charged, though...you guys will keep us up on this one, right?
I'll probably be offended once I stop laughing.
.....by seven bloodthirsty young lesbians.
......at the hands of a seething sapphic septet from Newark, N.J.
I know it's offensive, but this article cracked me up.
Only because you asked...
"Well, if recent events are any indication, we can at least look forward to commenters like Raging Moderate and Tom should be here any second to express their outrage about the ways these women are being unfairly treated, right?"
If and when the women are indicted, and protesters print wanted posters and signs that say "castrate" and parade outside their house, and the DA buries evidence in their favor, I will happily speak up. And if feministing posts something indefensible about it (as opposed to being correct, as they are here) I'll even comment on this site.
"Actually, the OP can remove the words "allegedly" from her title. Most of it was caught on tape,"
Didn't you (and others) say we can't "know" if one of the Duke accused were innocent even though one was caught on tape a mile away?
"If and when the women are indicted,"
Sorry for that part. Read and typed too fast. Again, I think you're right about the media coverage of this case, and that's why there aren't 350 comments of argument about it.
Very interesting. I had forgotten about this case. Is the security video available to the public?
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/crime_file/2007/04/12/2007-04-12_the_case_of_the_lesbian_beatdown-2.html
"Prosecutor Sharon Laveson said security video shows Patreese Johnson, 19, calmly leaving the fray, opening her bag, taking out a knife and returning to the melee."
I think my mis-trust of prosecutors is pretty well documented, but this is certainly interesting. I would really like to see this video for myself.
Well, I like to think that if my friends were still involved, I'd go back, too.
I'd like to see the tape, or at least see court documents, interview transcripts, direct quotes ect before forming an opinion on this case. I don't feel that I can fully trust information filtered through the MSM at this point.
"Well, if recent events are any indication, we can at least look forward to commenters like Raging Moderate and Tom should be here any second to express their outrage about the ways these women are being unfairly treated, right?"
Since you asked...
From the info available so far, I have no idea what happened. I don't jump to conclusions based on rumor or emotion.
If he did throw a cigarette at them and grabbed one by the throat, he had it coming.
If he didn't, the women deserve to do some time.
If there's a video of the incident, I'm confident justice will prevail.
How's that?
I'm not confident. Rodney King's beating was video-taped, and look what happened there.
Whoa, what the fuck? I remember this story, and when it happened, I sure as hell didn't imagine for a second that the next time I heard about it, these women would be on trial.
"Bloodthirsty young lesbians"
(god why dont you go eat shit, new york post i mean just stuff it down your throat and choke is all i am saying here, new york post)
That fact that the article was written by a woman makes me mad. Her title is outrageous and the first half of the article sounds as if the facts are that the women purposely sought this man out on the basis of attacking him. However, she contradicts herself when she states taht most of the fight was caught on tape such as grabbing one woman by the throat.
I wonder what this writer would do if she herself or others that she cared about were being attacked and threatened-perhaps stand idly by and watch. I on the other hand hope and pray that I would have the guts to stand up and fight for those I care about.
If I was a lesbian, I would form my own seething sapphic septet. I guess I shall have to settle for leading a hedonistic hetero horde.
From the sounds of it, this guy provoked it all! I admit the women went too far, but if some guy started harassing me and my friends and then grabbed one of us by the throat, of course the rest of us would help the other one! I do think something should happen to these women as a punishment, but up to 25 years in prison? And what about the guy involved? If video footage shows he provoked it and grabbed a woman by the neck, he should definitely get punished too!
I am an editor on our college newspaper staff and a journalism major (only one year left). The title of this article disgusts me! I can't believe they would even run it. I imagine that lesbians, gays, and bi-sexuals everywhere are pissed about it! I hope that this severly hurts their support and brings down the number of people who read their paper! I myself don't read the New York Post, but if I did I would definitely boycott it, as should anyone who supports their lesbian, gay, and bi-sexual friends!
One of the things that is so interesting/upsetting to me is that the media keeps making a point to identify the women as lesbians. Would it make any difference at all if the women were straight? If the women were hetero, they certainly wouldn't have been identified as such. The only reason I can think of for making such a big deal about the women’s' sexual orientation is to perpetuate the "crazy, man-hating dyke" myth. Just lovely.
Personally I think this man had it coming to him. If you are going to call people names and not expect any response you are crazy. Even more so if there are several women that you are calling names you should be fully aware that you will be attacked or approached.
Well, this is the thing, bulldog. Can you imagine the coverage if a lone woman started harrassing a group of men late at night and they attacked her? It would be all "she was asking for it/what did she expect/she brought it on herself."
