Changing the rules for sex-ed funding

The abstinence mafia are worried that their funding will be cut off when Democrats assume control of congress.

A Republican source told CBN News that the staff of liberal Democratic Congressman Henry Waxman is in the process of rewriting the set of definitions of what is considered an abstinence program.

Sweet! Could this mean they'll start funding comprehensive sex education, which discusses abstinence but also teaches students about contraception? At the very least, they could impose greater restrictions on programs that receive abstinence-only money, ensuring that all federally-funded curricula are medically accurate and free of gender stereotypes. I, for one, am excited about the possibilities.

That is exciting. I'm cautiously hopeful.

And I'm so glad you addressed it as "comprehensive" sex education. Many sites and opinions go so far in the opposite direction that they want to exclude other alternatives to make their point. I'm glad to see you're not one of them.

I totally agree. The idea of comprehensive sex education becoming a part of school curriculum is exciting...and kind of a relief. At Thanksgiving, I was talking to my cousin, who teaches abstinence-only education, about the elections and she was upset that I voted for democratic candidates. "Do you want me to lose my job?" she screamed.

And my response..."well, no offense, but yeah."

LOL.

That would have been my response, too...plus, she could always work at a private school.

I have an acquaintence who doesn't think sex ed of ANY kind, abstinence-only or otherwise, should be taught in schools. She thinks it should be left up to the parents...the argument against that is the same as the argument against parental notification laws. Not everyone can talk to their parents. So hey, at least the country's view isn't that bad. :)

But this is great, really...It's good that thigns are slowly changing, one by one.

Go my congressman!

Henry Waxman is a fucking national treasure.
