Phill Kline's "investigation" continues

Even with him out of office, the Phill Kline drama just doesn't end. After the former Kansas attorney general seized women's abortion records, two health clinics asked the Kansas Supreme Court to intervene and take the records away from the AG's office. Probably a good idea, as someone in the AG's office leaked the women's private abortion records to Bill O'Reilly. Then Paul Morrison, the former Republican who was elected to replace Kline, said he'd be keeping the records for himself. You know, just in case.

Anyway, the Kansas Supreme Court just denied the clinics' request to have the records returned to them.

The ruling means Kline, a Republican, can continue his investigation, refer potential cases to county prosecutors or file charges himself before leaving office Jan. 8.

Want to start placing bets on which right-wing talk show host will end up with the records next?

This is a good example of why moms do well to get a second identity for our kids at birth. Between the terrorist excuse, and the 'for your own good' excuse, plus whatever else they have in the works, there will be times when we need to protect our own privacy by using an alias.
Check out how our constitutionally protected right to privacy which gave us the right to be in charge of our own bodies in the first place, is now so easily and thouroughly violated when we need reproductive health care.
Have you read The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood? Chilling.

What in [insert deity here]'s name are you talking about, Lesbequet?

Bearcat.
If you read The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood, you will get a pretty good idea of what Y am talking about. Or, if you read Ann's post. Example: a woman decides to terminate a pregnancy, or get some emergency contraception, but she doesn't want her medical records in the posession of some dick-head who could use the info to harrass her, charge her with murder, or whatever. If she had a second identity, she could use it in obtaining these kinds of health care services.

Or, in your case, the government decides to draft you into an immoral war, but you have a passport in a second identity which allows you to go elsewhere to avoid killing other people on purpose.

Oh, Y pick Yemaya as the deity in whose name Y am talking on this subject.

Okay, first thing: can we all agree that an abortion clinic is not above reproach?

The Kansas AG's office had reason to believe that an abortion clinic was breaking state laws. In order to pursue an investigation into that, medical records had to be removed from the abortion clinic.

From what I understand, the clinic doctor (or doctors) was making money while breaking Kansas law. Where do we draw the line? I fully support keeping medical records confidential, but investigations need to be performed when laws are broken.

The 1982 Kansas law said law enforcement needed to know about possible child abuse from teachers, doctors and health professionals. He argued the law was later extended to include consensual sex between minors or if “Steve frenched Stacy on the band trip to Topeka. This is about laws as much Kline needing a sex life.

Dave:
Probably we can all agree that the state of medical care to all but the very wealthy is subject to reproach. However, here we are discussing women's safety, privacy, and our right to obtain the medical services we choose.
Anyone who is determined to go after child molesters would approach the task in a more effective way. Passsing out medical records to talking heads is not an effective method. By the way, what is an "abortion clinic"?

notice how paul morrison didn't mention he'd do this BEFORE the election!

because if he had, all the smart folks would have banged him over the head with it, and just not voted at all.

and i still can't believe i voted for him with this crap he's going on about.

How is it that women who get abortions and other medical services from a family planning clinic are treated differently from any other medical patients, and have their information leaked to any fucktard republican talking head? Are they supposed to be "ashamed," and just put up with that?
I think they should sue the shit out of that Kansas AG department. I don't care if someone is pro-choice or pro-coathanger - they deserve the right to private medical records.
Sheesh. What the HELL is wrong with Kansas! I am loath to even FLY over, let alone VISIT, ever.
