Woo hoo! South Dakota rejects abortion ban!

I may be a little drunk, but damn am I happy!

South Dakotans have rejected the ridiculous abortion ban
that left no exception for rape, incest, or women's health. Take that, assholes!!

Yeah, too much red wine.

Yeah, I live in one of the states that passed the ban, and I'm really, really pissed. (I know it's not a particularly productive comment, but I need to vent a little.)

YES YES YES. And a huge YAY to Nancy Pelosi as Speaker.

(The gay marriage bans do totally suck, although they don't surprise me. As irritating as they are, I think they'll fall a few years from now -- once the country comes out of the Bush-haze, I'm hoping everyone will realize how stupid it is to have something like that tagged onto your *constitution,* for crying out loud. Maybe that's just wishful thinking?)

What worries me is that the GOP, or certain factions within it, will interpret this loss as a result of having alienated or lost the fundies. And they'll point to the success of the bans as evidence. And we'll get an even more Bible-thumping political campaign and platform nex time (if it's possible to be more Bible-thumpin' than 2004). And it will work, which is obviously the really scary/depressing thought.

At least this ban is slated to fail in Arizona. One state out of eight can't be that bad.

My boyfriend was watching your page when I was on the phone with my mom and said, "Are you writing for Feministing?" when this entry posted because I had just said something almost identical.

The best parts of this:
1. Boyfriend who is a feminist and totally gets it.

2. Sharing it with my mom at the same time.

3. Wahoo South Dakota.

I signed up for a text message alert from Planned Parenthood as soon as the results were in, I even woke up my boyfriend to tell him the good news. Though i'm the more liberal one in the relationship he hates when the government intrudes in people's lives like this ban would have done.

WOO HOO South Dakota!!

But I'm REALLY unhappy about all the anti-gay voting going on. Really fucking pissed, actually. And I started off in such a good mood about Nancy representing in the House :(

I'm *super* disappointed in my home state of CO for approving the ban. Come on, people! You didn't learn from the bitch-slap SCOTUS handed you after Amendment 2? You serious??

And, randomly, what up with Nevada possibly saying no to marijuana? Again, are you serious? The only state in the union with legal prositution is squeamish about pot?

I swear, I will never get some of the people in this country...

If you're able to inform people what's going on, it shows that common sense can actually prevail.

I was there last night in the election party when we won. It was so freaking sweet! It made all of those nasty mean things the antis said to me worth it.
