Minority Old Boys Network Shamelessly Recruits Eye Candy

Contributed by Courtney E. Martin

It is creepy enough that The Harlem Club, “a private membership organization established by African-American and Hispanic investment bankers, corporate lawyers, and doctors, sent an email far and wide soliciting nominations for women to invite to upcoming cocktail parties. What is just out-and-out offensive are the criteria (“NO EXCEPTIONS!) that they list:

1) Single;
2) 35 years and younger;
3) Childless;
4) College Educated;
5) Very Sexy In Great Shape!

Can you imagine the shit that would go down if Black Career Women, a national organization, were to advertise for muscular, CEO boy toys for their upcoming shindigs?

Thomas Lopez-Pierre, author of this offensive invitation, writes that “interested women are required to email resume and recent full body photo to: HarlemClubNYC@aol.com.

Let’s fill the ol’ boy’s inbox with some sass instead.

Sass indeed! That is so retarded - I can very nearly hear the angry bleating emanating from all the MRA sites if women posted such a "want ad."

Now, where is my picture of Jaba the Hut?

From their website:

"The Harlem Club hosts cocktail parties that are attended by college educated women who have been specifically invited due to their unique personal characteristics and social circumstances."

Unique personal characteristics=She'd better be hot, and she'd better be available, because what's female company if there's not at least a slim chance of getting some?

Social Circumstances=She'd better not have kids because then she's obviously a filthy whore, having had sex out of wedlock.

I need to shower now; reading crap like that makes me feel dirty.

And as a side note, how many of those good ol' boys are themselves under 35?

Is this how men of color get back at "the man" when they are feeling crapped upon? bonding together to treat women even crappier? They put the ASS in "class."

Idiocy knows no color.

Is this how men of color get back at "the man" when they are feeling crapped upon? bonding together to treat women even crappier? They put the ASS in "class."

Basically! And if they cannot get what they want here, they hop a plane to Brazil to indulge in the sex trade:

Oh, they have opened up a can of internet whoop-ass.

Actually, I don't believe that there would be a firestorm if a female group were to do that. There really isn't an opposite movement to the the feminazis, not atleast one that I am aware of. The only bellyaching that would occur would be the good ol boys wondering why the feminist movement was being quiet, almost hypocritically quiet, when women partake in the same actions.

So Duncan, your point is based on what WOULD happen if something else were to happen. But, um, it hasn't happened. So your blaming feminists for what you know they would do...

Oh never mind. Your argument goes well with your clever stratagy of calling people you don't like "Nazis." Because ardent feminists, like Nazis, invaded Poland. And built concentration camps. And committed genocide.

Out of idle curiosity: what does the phrase "almost hypocritcally quiet" mean? Can quiet of any kind be hypocritical? Since it's linguistically impossible to be hypocritically quiet, can one be almost hypocritcally quiet?

I think that you have a lot to teach us all.

Oh DT,

Thanks for your pseudo-intellectual condescension. By feminazis I am referring to radical feminism, you know, the man-haters out there that believe behind every man is a worse man. I believe in the equal work/equal pay for women. I am against workplace sexual harassment. I have just seen the feminist movement push for equal inequality, if you will. Where women are promoted for not having a penis, qualifications notwithstanding. The pendulum swung too far in the other direction. Perhaps I too have fallen into Godwin's law.

You can be hypocritically quiet. For instance, Bill Clinton gets a blow job in the oval office by an intern. Yes, I know the left hates that little incident and all that surrounds it from ever being brought up, but I find it interesting that the feminist movement didn't crucify Clinton. After all, such behavior in a CEO's office, or in any other government position, would have had calls for immediate dismissal. Yet it seems politics overshadowing ideologies and the wagon's were circled. There wasn't much more than a ripple in the water from feminist movements. There is an example of being a hypocrite by being silent. To paraphrase a wise man from long ago, you can't criticise the speck in your brother's/sister's eye when there is a plank in your own.

I hope I was just as pseudo-intellectually condenscending as you....

Duncan, son.... as soon as you use a word like "feminazis" you disqualify yourself from serious consideration. So you can go rejoin your limbaugh jack-off session.
Love,
Your Mother

Touche Lesbesquet. You single handedly just destroyed my argument. You should be praised for your eloquent abilities at prose.

What on earth are you talking about, Duncan? Why would feminists be upset because Clinton and Lewinsky had consensual sex? Is it sleazy to get a blow job in one's office? Sure. But it's not the job of feminists to enforce good taste. Nor is it our job to prevent consenting adults from having sex. I think it was pretty creepy behavior, but Clinton wasn't the first and he won't be the last. As for playing politics--why shouldn't feminists? Politics matter. What, we have to be the only lily-white angels at the table? Men wheel and deal all the time; it's part of getting and keeping power.

Actually, in real life, such behavior in a CEO's office never comes to public eye, and if the woman in question speaks up, she's fired out of hand. That is how the real world works. Try living in it; it's not a nice place, it's true, but it's the only one we've got. Once you're here, you might begin to see the problem with comparing women who have fought long and hard to ensure justice with fascists who systematically tortured and murdered millions of people.

I don't see anything wrong with the men and their club. If you don't meet the criteria then you don't have to attend the luncheons, or if your just plain offended by them then you don't have to attend either.

We've all got standards; they just chose to advertise their standards for people to see.

"We've all got standards"

Some people do.

"Actually, I don't believe that there would be a firestorm if a female group were to do that."

Probably because a female group wouldn't. Women seem to have more class than most men - and I'm not a feminist, so don't start with you "feminazi" bullshit.

It's obvious The Harlem Club is not looking to meet women for their intellectual talents.

This story is about 2-3 years old. Trust me, these good ol' boys were laughed back into their respective hole from day one. But good night, John-Boy Walton, you should've seen the women who DID play into this! It was so pathetic!
