Conservatives "shocked" they didn't get their way on Plan B

I'm really enjoying conservatives' reactions to today's Plan B news-- they're like spoiled children who aren't used to hearing "no." They're pissed at the FDA, and even more pissed at Bush for saying he supports the agency's decision. In response, they're threatening to sue and working hard to get people to confuse emergency contraception with RU-486, the abortion pill.

Perhaps my favorite reaction is from Concerned Women for America, which argues that, because the FDA finally acknowledged that science shows Plan B is safe for over-the-counter sale, the agency has "overstepped its authority."

In related good news today, the Kaiser Report says bills to allow pharmacists to refuse to fill prescriptions were introduced in nearly half of the state legislatures this year. But not a single state has passed the legislation. (I'm going to temporarily ignore the fact that all of that legislation is being reintroduced in the coming year...)

Delightful. Now does anybody know where I get in on some hot teen sex cult action?

Way to go! Good news at last. Hopefully, this will be the beginning of the end. The belligerence that has surrounded this issue is stultifying. More accessible, early intervention and treatment makes life better for all.

"In response, they're threatening to sue". Please would someone edify me as to the premise of their suit?

Aren't you a bit old for that?

Best response to conservatives' reactions on this:

Nelson Muntz laugh!

I used to post to this site in another name (same email, though), and I'm going to say it. I TOLD YOU SO!!.
Plan B is better than an abortion by any measure. This is called a compromise. Now, the next part of my prediction will be coming soon. There will be other restrictions and parental consent requirements passed in almost every state.

The end goal is to reduce the number of abortions, right?

In Oregon they are sending out postcards to "occupant" explaining how the morning after pill works and that it is not an abortion thing. It seems like a good idea. They can't confuse people if the people are already informed.

"The end goal is to reduce the number of abortions, right?"

That's not a major goal of mine. My goal is to make sure women aren't treated as chattel by being forced to reproduce against their will.
