LA governor signs abortion ban

We knew it was coming, but it still stings.

Gov. Kathleen Blanco has signed an abortion ban into law; the ban will only take effect if Roe is overturned.

Blanco signed the measure on Saturday. Planned Parenthood of Louisiana issued a statement saying the new law "endangers women's health by criminalizing abortion at a time when the state is still recovering from Hurricane Katrina and scrambling to prepare for the start of the new hurricane season."

The measure, sponsored by Sen. Ben Nevers, D-Bogalusa, includes no exceptions for cases of rape or incest. It would allow abortion only to save the life or the health of the mother.

How generous of them. First South Dakota, then Ohio (sort of). Now Louisiana. Any guesses on which state is next up to screw us over?

Hi, What did you girls expect. Birthrates are dropping or are already well below 2.1/woman. That means the population will shrink. Its Women reproduction rights vs. keeping America afloat. Birthrates DO matter. This is why we still have the draft in Germany. Who volunteers to enlist in an army, which can look at the beauty of 1.000.000 casualities in its history not to forget the excellent reputation the Wehr err Bundeswehr has/had.

There's definitely a little part of me that wants to sit back and let them do whatever they want... and watch everything crash and burn. And everything will crash and burn. They're ignoring pressing modern-day issues in favour of something that was decided around thirty years ago.

Family unit as good as destroyed men opting out of marriage due to divorce laws. Women not filling in the void left with patriarchy gone, raising high school drop outs as singel moms, America is closer to crash than you think.
Who gains from all this, who could have an interest in whiping out the middle class ? You do not see feminism among the industrialists/banker families/high ranking politicians or divorce for that matter. Where does all the money come from, that funds feminism.

What is with all the Republican states rushing this legislation through? LA, SD, Ohio... are they all getting the bill pre-drafted from the Focus on the Family website?

We can only hope the lower courts strike it down soon. I can't imagine the Supreme Court will give it the time of day. (crosses fingers)

Cassius, unless you're being sarcastic, your POV is untenable. I am aware of Germany's "problem" and it's not a problem at all. Like America, you have an net GAIN of immigrants. The only "losses" you have is that of "real Germans".

It's sickening to me that we have such a real danger of global overpopulation and Germany and Italy are upset because their "native" women aren't overproducing children. Get a glass of perspective and soda and realize that "Germans" aren't intrinsically better than "immigrants".
