Oh, awesome! It is great to get support from our sisters in the more enlightened parts of the country - we're really hurting down here in the Delta. We've held 'em off here in Mississippi for now, but I'm not sure how long it'll last.
In Louisiana, SB33 goes to the House floor next week - a trigger law with no exceptions for rape or incest (it was amended to include a weak health exception last Wednesday). The ladies down there could use some love, too. Try CLOUP or Planned Parenthood for more on what you can do if you're in the area.
Again, thanks so much, on behalf of all the women of Mississippi who can't get to a computer.
Thanks for posting about this. I've been pretty under-the-weather of late, and unable to help promote this the way I should have.
I'm in the neighborhood, and will try to make it if I don't have to work.
The other day, I was thinking about how it would be fun to have a little carnival as a benefit for these folks, like the kind my church has when I was a kid (cue Mr. Roboto soundtrack). You know...carny games, a cotton candy machine, but most importantly, bringing back the tradition of a CAKEWALK! That would be pretty awesome.
Damn. You're in my neighborhood, and I just now saw this, mere hours after the event ended. I hope this is just the first of many...
I really don't understand why Ms. Fire Thunder is supporting this. If I were part of an ethnic minority in danger of dissapearing off the face of the earth, I would fight like hell to keep the women of my tribe from killing the next generation out of despair or any other reason.
I have not heard any feminists talk about this issue. There are so many black babies in this country that were never born, because of abortion! Why should we be defending a woman's right to cut off the future of her race/tribe/heritage? Abortion is a tool of the patriarchy to oppress and kill off minority races by convincing them it is some kind of civilized human right to be able to do it.
I think Ms. Fire Thunder is sending an unintentionally chilling message.
