A terrifying glimpse of the future

I meant to point this out yesterday...Jack Hitt has an amazing (though upsetting) article in the latest NY Times Magazine on abortion in El Salvador, Pro-Life Nation.

It really is a must read--this is where we are heading. A future where women are jailed for 30 years for having an abortion, where your uterus needs a forensic expert, and where there is no such thing as a lifesaving abortion.

Also, don’t forget to check out Air America's Rachel Maddow interviewing Hitt about the article.

And be sure to check out the photos. They are chilling. If this is the future anti-choice radicals want for American women, they should be pressured to say so.

I can’t access the article as I don’t have an account, but I did listen to the interview that you posted a few days ago with the author (which was very good) and I am not sure that this is an example of most of the pro-lifers’ agenda. I thought the author summarized it well when he said it was the “logical evolution of the situation once life was determined to start at inception and entrenched in the constitution as an obligation for the state to protect this life.

While I don’t support pro-life agenda I did not think most of them included an amendment to the US constitution recognizing life at conception and making it the role of the federal government to protect this life. However, I am no expert on pro-life strategies for the US, if this is their agenda then as a friendly neighbor to the north I hope your check and balance system kicks in soon!

Anti-choice by definition have this agenda, to my mind it is just another incarnation of the same mentality that drove the anti-communists, prohibitionists, Salem trials etc, it's the persecution mentality.
