to understand this article by Maureen Dowd perhaps we need to consider what her motivation was. If it was to get publicity for her book and increase her fame, it worked!
I suspect that is the entire purpose of her career, truth and valuable research are not a part of the equation. People take it seriously because she is a nyt person. If not for that she would likely be dismissed as a crank.
