French Open to pay men and women equal prize money

In case you like tennis. (Or even if you don’t; I sure as hell have no interest in it.)

The French Open recently decided to pay equal prize money to both men and women.

This now leaves just Wimbledon as the only Grand Slam to pay women less.

It is about time. I predict that within 7 years they will pay women more, as I believe women's pro tennis will surpass men's in popularity, if it has not already.

Well, I live for professional tennis, and I'm very glad to hear this. I thought it was coming. The French Open is my favorite Slam, too.

Right. Both sexes should be paid the same regardless of which is more popular. Unless it's women's tennis which is more popular, in which case, it should be based on popularity. Makes perfect sense.

hey, nasty, check it out...
the writers for this site argue that there should be equal pay regardless of popularity (kind of - actually, the writers argue that women should not be discouraged from athletics and funding should not be cut from women's athletics at higher institutions, but since both you and Jones wanna twist it, let's twist it)...
then you argue something off of Jones' post on here as if it were written by the site's writers... which is not true. Jones made some serious arguments in the previous column about why men should be paid more in athletics, so he's being entirely consistent...

whereas you're being a baboon with his thumb stuck up his ass... dumbass.

My apologies, puck, I didn't catch it. I don't pay that much attention to the site since there are rarely more posts than I have meals in a day. As far as your razor-sharp wit, I would offer only one recommendation with your insults. Never end on rhyme! Alliteration usually works well, but never end on rhyme! Not only does it smack of bad poetry but it causes your audience to wonder whether or not you were inhibited by writer's block, scrambling for clever diction to express the thoughts you're trying to convey. It's amateurish and it's beneath you. Otherwise, I was quite impressed. Would you like to be my friend? :)

When are you going to get that fixed?

puckalish, I could care less with regards to if men or women are paid more or less. I do not believe that wages should be set based on arbitrary notions such as "men should earn more" or "women should earn more" or "women and men should earn the same".

I believe that pay should be determined by merit.. as demonstrated in this case by POPULARITY and the willingness of the public to hand over $$$. Do not forget that athletes do not get paid to be athletes, they get paid as entertainers. Just as the most popular movies have the biggest box office, the most popular sports and athletes should get the biggest payment. Wan or woman? I don't give a flying fuck. The business of professonal athletics is business. that is what distinguishes it from non-paid ameteur sports. If u want sport for the sake of sport, go watch a swim meet or archery contest.
