The Associated Press reports that anti-choice activists (crazies) were ordered to pay $108.5 million in damages for creating "Wanted" posters that listed the names and addresses of over a dozen doctors.
The anti-choice folks claimed that the posters were a form of protest and protected by the First Amendment. Paul DeParrie, former editor-in-chief of Life Advocate magazine and one of the posters' creators: "If you read them, there is no threat--either implicit or explicit."
The doctors who sued felt a little differently:
Four physicians, claiming they feared for their lives, sued under racketeering laws and a 1994 federal law that makes it illegal to incite violence against abortion doctors.
They pointed to Dr. Bayard Britton, who was shot and killed, along with his bodyguard, by an abortion protester outside a Pensacola, Fla., abortion clinic in July 1994 after his name appeared on a similar poster.
And these people have the fucking nerve to say the posters aren't intended to cause harm!?

They didn't feel the posters were threatening? Oye, that is about as good as Rove didn't leak. Some people just can't help but lie all the time! The sad thing is these people also believe they are "Good" Christians. Makes you want to drink....
Bullshit!!! Not Mark's comment, but that these ignorant assholes would think that posting a wanted poster would not be considered a threat but mere protected speech. Did they not take US history and learn that not all speech is protected? You cannot run into a church and yell, "Jesus has returned and is waiting outside to open the door to heaven for all of you GOOD, JUST PEOPLE!" because half of them would be killed as they ran over each other to get outside. Of the other half, probably only a quarter would actually get into heaven and the rest would be sent to hell for judging or murdering their fellow men and women!!!
I was raised Catholic but am now converting to Judaism (no, not because my boyfriend is a Jew but because I love the religion). As a child I was exposed to many a "good Christian" who went to church every Sunday but was gossiping about the neighbors and calling children names. When are these people going to learn that being a Christian is about being a good person, not just dragging your tired ass to church on Sunday?
From the Associated Press article:
But the activists claim that a recent ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court significantly raised the bar on what constitutes true intimidation.
Anybody know what recent ruling they are referring to?
I think any publishing of a person's home address without their permission should not be allowed.
