La Quinta Corp. has stopped a women's health clinic in Wichita from referring patients to their local hotels for fear that people will think they have a "professional" relationship. Oh please.
The clinic has been referring women who need a place to stay in Wichita to the hotel, as well as sending nurses to the hotel to check up on the women after the procedure.
While a hotel spokesperson said that they "cannot legally ask a guest the reason for their stay or discriminate against any guest," it sure seems like that is what is going on to me.
Note the language of an e-mail response to questions from The Wichita Eagle:
We have, on the other hand, found representations that we believe may have created a perception that we have a business partnership with this clinic. This is not the case! As such, we have asked that anyone using our name in conjunction with this type of business immediately stop using our name.
What's wrong with the clinic listing local hotels for women who are traveling from out of town? How does this imply a "professional" relationship?
While the hotel can't force women from staying there, their anti-choice message is loud and clear.
(By the way, it was the ever-infuriating anti-choice group Operation Rescue who prompted this ridiculousness.)

Op. Rescue has been trying to take down George Tiller and his clinic for years. The man has been stalked, shot at, and threatened in any number of ways, and still he continues to be the source of hope for so many desperate women. This is just another sneaky way for Operation Rescue to chip away at his business.
The man, albeit a prickly fellow, is a saint (and saying so probably infuriates Operation Rescue types that much more).
"The man has been stalked, shot at, and threatened in any number of ways, and still he continues to be the source of hope for so many desperate women."
They also follow him and his nurses everywhere, and if they get a cup of coffee at the Starbucks, they threaten Starbucks with a massive boycott and bad publicity. Same with pizza delivery companies, grocery stores, schools where their children attend, etc. It's beyond ridiculous what they put Dr. Tiller and his staff through. But I don't think Kansas law enforcement is keenly interested in doing a damn thing about it.
I am totally bewildered by the fact that there are so many selfish, self centered people in the world who can over look the fact that abortion is MURDER. A human fetus is a living thing, no matter the stage of development.. The work of Dr. Tiller and all other abortion doctors is beyond wrong, it is evil and disgusting.
feminist is another word used to describe ignorant women.
