Jessica Simpson's virginity vow...to her Dad
I know that I've written about Jessica Simpson's creepy dad before (with apologies for posting on celeb gossip), but this was sooo freaky I just had to point it out:
Jessica Simpson's father Joe made the singer promise to stay a virgin until she married, during a ceremony when she was twelve.
Simpson, who doubles as Jessica's manager, handed the 24-year-old a promise ring and vowed to be the only man in her life until she married.
He explains, "I'm going to tell you how beautiful you are every day. Even when you make a mistake, you are someone special. And I am going to be that person until the day you find a man to do that in my place."
Um...what the fuck?

This is very, very disturbing. It's one thing to make a conscious decision about when one will lose one's virginity, but I've never heard of a father who is so pathologically obsessed with every aspect of his daughter's sex life. Ick.
Actually, there's a subculture of parents and teens who are really in to the chastity card promises and virginity promise rings. MouseWords even had an article mentioning a boyfriend who "redeemed" his girlfriend's chastity card to her mother when he asked the girl to marry him. I can't find her original post, though. Nowadays, fathers don't have the excuse that they are protecting valuable family property (daughter's marriageability). Wait - the father is her MANAGER, which does mean he is protecting valuable property from running off with another manager/boyfriend and making Dear Old Dad have to work for a living again.
Those promises with rings are becoming really common. Mostly the girls promise to stay virgins to Jesus, but some of them do it in a mock wedding to their fathers. Some of the "virgin" rings come engraved with the fathers' names. I've heard of girls as young as 7 doing this--I heard it on Dr. Laura who felt like the father thing was a tad creepy, too, though she fully supports bullying young girls into promising not to have sex before they know what it is.
AND as long we are dipping into the well of simpinsanity--how about the fact that her father also comments on her breasts constantly in the media? i'm amazed that he says it, and i'm amazed that it gets reported. that relationship seems to be the logical extension of all the mania for the lil teen queens.

It's especially weird considering Jessica's boobs are now fake. (They were real when she first became popular but then she was pressured into losing something like 15 pounds for her numerous videos)

I find it very refreshing and empowering that so many girls are waiting for the right guy to give their bodies to. It is each and every woman's chice and her power to choose. This myth that it is "liberating" to sleep around was ovwer with the sixties and all the chlamydia, herpes, etc it brought us all. But this Jessica Simpson dad thing is sick, sick, sick!!! Why would a girl tell her dad or make a 'vow' to her dad anything about her sexuality? There is much more going on there, there are too many signs to ignore. Makes me wonder how deep in denial or drugs that so called "mom" is.

Having read your comments I'm leaning towards cattiness instead of concern.
I was going to make some really insightful , witty comment, but thinking back, especially about a comment "Pappa Joe" made about his first-born's "double-d's", I'm really just grossed out, and wonder about her pretensense of complete stupidity and dependence on a man.....yuck. I'm going to take a shower.
Where have I been all these years...? What is this Dad doing? This is not a Dad. this is NOT a preacher.. this is a weird sicko...and he needs to be stopped... I'm not sure if Jessica's and Nick's marriage was made in heaven.. but they sure are good together... and this idiot psychotic, father.. well, that man needs immediate help... and Jess.. if you read this.. run.. run fast and far.. and leave him behind... your fame, and your ability.. and your marriage... hopefully salvageable to Nick.. seem to be the place you need to be... get out of there.. an leave that man who calls you daughter.. while you still can...
