Personify, Don’t Objectify

You say she has a bright future behind her

But what about ahead?

You seem to spend eternity watching her dance,

But have you spent a minute thinking about what she’s said?

You may think women enjoy the praise,

But what are you really suggesting?

You have put out a message

That our bodies are the most important thing to be investing.

In your song there was not one word of her personality,

Her thoughts or her views.

Your one big question is how she fits all of that into her jeans,

Summing up how her exterior is the cause for your enthuse.

You sing of what you would do with her body

And the fun that you expect

Leading me to wonder if you see her as a person

Or maybe just an object.

Show some respect, Mr. Derulo

Do not objectify.

See past the body and into the mind

Equality cannot be reached until you personify.
