Feministing Jamz: “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” – Joy Postell

In honor of the protests erupting her hometown, Baltimore native and singer/songwriter Joy Postell released this beautiful and haunting acoustic video “Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” this week. 

“These protests reflect the amount of rage bubbling in black communities,” she writes, “and for me, I believe that music is one of the most powerful forms of dialogue that we have.”

She is the author of the forthcoming book Doing Harm: The Truth About How Bad Medicine and Lazy Science Leave Women Dismissed, Misdiagnosed, and Sick (HarperOne, March 2018). Ohio Cop Murders Donna Dalton, Sex Worker, Mother, and Friend

Last Friday in Columbus Ohio, Donna Castleberry Dalton, a 23-year old woman and mother of two was shot and killed by an undercover police officer after he forced her into his car and attempted to arrest her during a “prostitution sting.”  

Dalton’s friends and family are challenging the official police narrative of events.
