Nas clarifies what he meant about feminism being the “Woman’s Mafia”

Remember a couple weeks ago when we were all confused by what Nas meant when he sent out a tweet calling feminism “the woman’s mafia”? No? Was I the only one confused?

Anyway, last week, Nas clarified his tweet in a conversation at Georgetown University with Michael Eric Dyson. He responds to the question from an audience member and self-identified feminist at about the 49 minute mark:

Only men can handle burgers, according to laziest Hardee’s ad yet

Hardee’s/Carl’s Jr.’s advertising approach has always been unapologetically sexist, but I guess these days they’re abandoning all subtlety.

Yep, X-Men shape-shifter Mystique must literally morph into a Real Man™ before she can eat this burger.

CLPP 2014: Young Activists Gettin’ It Done!

Ed note: This is a guest post by Zoë Boyle and Jennifer Su, CLPP Lead Student Organizers pictured below.

Almost a year ago, TIME magazine published a now notorious cover story by Joel Stein accusing millennials of being the “Me Me Me!” generation. Describing us as lazy, selfish, and glued to our iPhones, the article painted a picture of wasted youth. Since the publication, there has been no shortage of responses to the article. Yet no amount of op-ed pieces can disguise the fact that we are a generation of action. Youth activists in the reproductive justice movement have come out swinging in the last year, proving ourselves as a powerful force to be reckoned ...

Rich white man gets no jail time for raping his three-year-old daughter because he “will not fare well” in prison

*Trigger warning*

I can’t really imagine a story that more perfectly illustrates how totally broken the criminal “justice” system in the US is.

Robert H. Richards IV, a rich unemployed heir to a chemical baron fortune who lives off his trust fund, was convicted of raping his three-year-old daughter. He also allegedly admitted to abusing his toddler son. But a Delaware state Superior Court judge decided that he “will not fare well” in prison, so he should get probation and treatment instead

Photos of the Day: Cute little kids posed as important women from history

This is just what I needed to get going this Monday morning.

In her “Because of Them, We Can” project, photographer Eunique Jones features little kids posed as groundbreaking women throughout history. The project started last year in honor of Black History Month (check out that series too for the cutest little Rosa Parks you ever saw) as Jones was reflecting on being a mother raising Black boys our current culture. She hopes it will “encourage and empower people of all ages and hues to dream out loud and reimagine themselves as greater than they are, simply by connecting the dots between the past, the present and the future.” You can follow the project
