Happy birthday Zerlina!

Zerlina with President Obama

You may have noticed a lot of Feministing crew members have birthday right around now. Yes, this is part of a nefarious plan for Scorpios to take over the blog. And Saturday was Zerlina Maxwell‘s birthday!

Zerlina joined the Feministing crew in 2011. She writes at a bunch of other publications as well and regularly brings her feminist message to Sirius XM Progress, Fox News, and MSNBC. Zerlina’s work often focuses on sexual violence; this year especially she’s been bravely going after victim blaming in the mainstream media. She’s blogged about the importance of health care access as well. Zerlina also makes great GIF lists, like this one where Hillary Clinton shows us how to handle a mansplainer. And she was recently featured in a feminist poster campaign. She even interviewed Nancy Pelosi at Netroots Nation this year. While doing all these amazing things she also just got her J.D. from Rutgers Law School. NBD.

A few more fun facts about Zerlina: her first name comes from the opera Don Giovanni, she was a competitive gymnast until the age of 15, and has a cat named Michael Jackson.

Please join us in wishing Zerlina a very happy (and slightly belated) birthday!
