Just a regular Tuesday in “post-racial” America

On Tuesday, the President was in Phoenix, Arizona, giving a speech about home ownership, when people in the crowd began protesting, using racial slurs. “He’s 47 percent Negro,” one shouted. Another held a sign that read, “Impeach the Half-White Muslim!”

Deanna Bartram, the 17-year-old college student holding that sign,

…lashed out at people who call her racist for not supporting Obama. She believes Obama supporters use the “race card” against her because they disagree with her political message.

“Obama is ruining American values. He is ruining the Constitution. He needs to go back to where he came from because obviously, he is a liar,” she said. “I am not racist. I am part Indian. Obama’s half Black, half White.”

No, Deanna, you’re not racist. You’re just an Islamophobe. And also a racist! Then one guy said that Joe Arpaio, the notorious Sheriff of Maricopa County, who is openly, unabashedly bigoted, should be President.

And then a whole bunch of them sang, “Bye bye Black sheep,” because racism is totally over in America.

Meanwhile, in Georgia, given a choice between Paula Deen and Martin Luther King, Jr., guess who Peach State Republicans prefer? I’ll give you a hint: it’s not the Black guy. According to Public Policy Polling, Deen has a 73% favourable approval rating with Georgia Republicans, while King, one of, like, two Black people whose names all white Americans are required to know, has a 59% favourable.

Lastly (in this blog post – I don’t mean to say this is the third and final instance of racism that occurred in America on Tuesday, because, well, this is America), in New York City, residents of Brooklyn woke up on Wednesday morning to find that post-racists had defaced a monument to a beloved American icon. According to NBC New York:

A statue of Jackie Robinson outside Brooklyn’s minor league baseball stadium in Coney Island was vandalized with a racial slur and a swastika, police said.

The NYPD hate crimes task force is investigating after the vandalism was discovered on the statue outside the Brooklyn Cyclones stadium Wednesday.

Police say someone wrote in black marker “die n—–” and had a swastika and the word “Hitler.”

It also said “F— Jackie Robinson.”

Man, I’m so glad that Obama’s election, Affirmative Action (I’m sorry, reverse racism against white people), and the rise of Beyoncé ended racial discrimination and turned America into a colourblind society where, frankly, it’s now much harder to be a white man than it is to be a Black man, woman, or child. Otherwise, all this would be hella racist.
