Congressman Paul Ryan’s war on rape suvivors continues

Congressman Paul Ryan (R-WI) got badly beaten in November, largely based on the “war on women” created gender gap, but instead of returning home and performing any self-evalutation as to why women voted for the president over Team Personhood, Rep. Paul Ryan again sponsored a bill spitting in the eye of rape survivors everywhere.  Apparently, getting your ass kicked in an election isn’t enough to make you rethink your horrible policy positions.

Ryan co-sponsored a new fetal personhood bill, the “Sanctity of Human Life Act,” this time without his buddy Todd “legitimate rape” Akin, which includes a provision to allow rapists to sue their victims to prevent them from terminating any resulting pregnancy.

Via ThinkProgress:

Despite the deep unpopularity of fetal personhood bills in 2012, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) has again decided to cosponsor the Sanctity of Human Life Act, a bill that gives full legal rights to human zygotes from the moment of fertilization.

[…]

The personhood bill, first introduced in 2011 by Rep. Paul Broun (R-Ga.) and reintroduced by Broun last week, specifies that a “one-celled human embryo,” even before it implants in the uterus to create a pregnancy, should be granted “all the legal and constitutional attributes and privileges of personhood.” Similar legislation has been rejected by voters in multiple states, including the socially conservative Mississippi, because legal experts have pointed out that it could outlaw some forms of birth control and in vitro fertilization as well as criminalize abortion at all stages.

And just to make sure the gender gap in favor of Democrats becomes permanent, the bill again includes the infuriating provision allowing rapists to sue their victims seeking to terminate any resulting pregnancy.  As if having your bodily autonomy taken away as the result of an attack isn’t enough, Paul Ryan wants to make sure, victims still don’t have control over their own bodies after the rape.

Here’s hoping Paul Ryan goes quietly into the night, into a future as a P90x spokesperson starring in infomercials, wearing his stupid red hat.
