Get With The Program Missorui!!

Back in August Springfield Missouri created a city ordinance that would protect the Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered communities under the non-discrimination act in regards to employment and housing.  The response was expansive with over 300 people coming to city hall to voice their opinions.  One person stood out and I had to post this viral video.  If the feministing community has not watched this video yet, make it a point to take a few minutes and watch.  Since the ordinance generated so much feedback from citizens the ordinance was tabled and sent to a “task force” of counsel members for review.  The city was not even able to vote on the issue.  City counsel claimed that the city needed a cool down period before the issue was voted on!

No further news about the voting or passing of this ordinance has been released.  It was rumored to be on the 2012 Missouri ballet but there is no sign of such a bill that would add protection the the LGBT community.

With such an overwhelming response to the ordinance; why is this issue of equality being swept under the rug?  The citizens obviously want the right to vote on this important issue that would progress Missouri towards an equally accepting state.  Still, the choice is being taken away from the citizens because they obviously need time to cool down.  In other words…forget that the LGBT community needs protection from discrimination in the work place!

I would like to take a line to commend Reverend Phil Snyder in his support for the LGBT community, we need more religious leaders like him in America!
