“Equal opportunity is a reality”

That is wrong on so many levels I can’t even begin to start.

I mean…you know, I hate being THAT person, but I’ve noticed all the people who say we’re all equal are WHITE MEN, occasionally white women. Kind of weird, huh?

I see this quite often, people denying sexism and racism, because “we have a black President” and other false truths, but really, I feel if things were equal, maybe black women would get paid as much as white men, or at least white women. I feel Hispanic people would not be questioned about their immigration. I feel there would be less black men getting needlessly arrested and put on death row far more than white men. Hell, I feel people would care far more about how amazing Gabby Douglas did and how well she is handling success for such a young woman instead of her damn hair. Dr. King’s dream is not a reality yet.
You want to know the sad thing? I’m a white person, who avoids talking about race because I feel I’m not qualified to do so, just because I don’t think I know that much besides the glaringly obvious, which I just pointed out here.

If I can offer up my own weekly gif, this is mine for the week:

When someone says equality is a reality today:
