What We Missed

This New York Times short documentary film “Scouted,” about looking for models among thirteen-year-old girls in Siberia is pretty disturbing.

Just over century after the New York City Triangle Shirtwaist factory fire killed  146 mostly immigrant and female garment workers because the factory lacked safe conditions and exits,  a factory fire in Pakistan kills over 300 garment workers because the factory lacked safe conditions and exits.

One public college in Arizona defies governor and offers young undocumented immigrants in-state tuition, if they have work permits.

On the 18-year anniversary of the passage of the Violence against Women Act, Joe Biden urges a its reauthorization: “While women and girls face these devastating realities every day, reauthorization of a strengthened VAWA languishes in Congress…VAWA is just as important today as it was when it first became law, and I urge Congress to keep the promise we made to our daughters and our granddaughters on that day—that we would work together to keep them safe.”

A report by the NYCLU (the New York branch of the ACLU) reveals just how terrible sex ed materials used in New York state are. One district defined the vagina as a “sperm deposit.” That’s what I call mine.
