“Women: Occupy the Left” by Katha Pollitt at The Nation http://www.thenation.com/article/167684/women-occupy-left
(But realizing when she writes the word “women,” she also is talking about some trans, genderqueer, and intersex people who have a uterus and are negatively affected by anti-choice laws).
I believe this to be restorative justice at its finest. I think we are often quick to condemn people for a lifetime, even people as young as 15 who, while choosing to commit atrocious acts, are also able to change and contribute to the forward moevement of social justice. Simply condeming them for life is act of anger (justifiable anger none the less)…but engaging people like him in the process to shift cultural norms & speak to young men to prevent many more incidents of the horrific act of rape is needed, and I appreciate his acceptance of responsibility and commitment to the movement.
I’m with Sarah. How should we treat people who have done something bad to another human, but have either served their punishment or are remorseful and want to repent? How do we integrate these people back into society?
This week I wrote about the GOP’s attempt to dismiss the “War on Women” as imaginary and/or Obama’s fault. I don’t really see the way forward for them, as they’re losing women’s votes so badly, especially in key swing states. http://noticingthegap.com/2012/04/30/what-war-on-women/
Just want to share a project that we’ve started here at SUNY Oneonta to teach members of our community about the need to rephrase victim-blaming statements into ones that blame perpetrators. You can see our video <a href=" here for mac and here for pc.
Some guys really don’t get it. “Fine, but why the hostility?” An ex wonders why I don’t greet him with open arms, like a loyal collie, seven years after I hung up on him and told me not to call again.
Feministing is a labor of love and all our staff has other full-time jobs to support their work on the site. Your contribution is not only much appreciated, it's much needed.

It’s interesting how when a woman gets raped by a man, it’s rape. But when a man gets raped by a woman, it’s “forcing to make love”. Double Standard anyone?

Wishing that I lived closer to this; it looks amazing! http://pitchfork.com/news/46343-antony-talks-curating-meltdown-festival/ Antony Hegarty is a beautiful person and an incredible artist (Antony and the Johnsons) whose songs revolve around the themes of gender, suffering and hope. Here’s a great article on him, if you’re interested in hearing more: http://pitchfork.com/features/articles/7634-another-world/
