Irin Carmon who did award-winning on the ground reporting on the Mississippi ballot initiative, has a wrap-up of why it failed. “At the very least, we know that there is such a thing as conservative overreaching — even in Mississippi.”

President Obama gave an important nod to the personhood win in MS.

    According to Time, Personhood USA is making efforts to put a similar initiative on the 2012 ballots in Florida, Montana, Ohio, Oregon, Nevada and California.

    As a resident of Oregon, I am both frightened by this and completely annoyed. I thought these ideas would only come out of the cracks in more conservative states–such as Mississippi–but clearly a nationwide attack is being launched.

    Try it, Personhood! I have a great deal of faith in Oregon voters. :-)
