Once I get started counting the ways Vanessa Valenti rocks life, it’s hard for me to curb my heartsplodin’ love and admiration. First and foremost, she’s one of the kindest people I’ve ever encountered. She is the friend (or sister…or auntie…) that so many people call on–always ready with a listening ear, loyal without fail, and eternally down to throw a celebration party. But never fear, she’s not one of those really nice but not terribly witty or funny people. She’s f-ing hilarious and ridiculously smart and articulate. Her posts at Feministing consistently boil down a thorny issue to its most essential parts, then wrap up with some enviable zinger that only she could spit out on the regular. And last, but not least, I have a total boner for her dancing. Take a little bit of 90s hip hop, throw in a demure lil’ splash of tip toeing and side glancing, and top it off with a huge, sexy smile, and well, that’s V on the d-floor. It kills everytime.
Happy birthday V! Thank you for everything you are and everything you do for the Feministing family and feminism writ large. The movement wouldn’t be the same without you.
