Total Frat Move: Total Sexism

I was on Facebook today and clicked on a link to a site called TotalFratMove.com, a website which is like fmylife.com or texts from last night but theme is stereotypical frat guy quotes/comments. Some of them are funny but some of them are horribly sexist. The gem that caught my eye today was posted by Oprah Is A Dyke” (lovely.) and said:

“I asked my slam if she could smell that weird scent. She said what scent. I said that scent of nothing being fucking cooked. TFM.”

I read this, stared at my screen just generally horrified. This isn’t the only post in which women are referred to as a “slam piece” (which according to urbandictionary.com means “A sex partner to whom you have no special attachment.”). The site is riddled with awful and degrading things about females.

The sexism on this site is hardly ever commented on because the nature of the website is stereotypical frat assholes who can’t be changed. It’s okay for them to be sexist because they’re just never going to change. Plus readers of this site subscribe to this kind of sex negative humor, hence why the site sustains.

If we allow for websites like this to exist without any discussion of how douchy they are, aren’t we just perpetuating sexism through silence?

Sure the few posts that aren’t degrading to women are humorous. But this website validates and almost rewards asshole behavior on behalf of guys in a frat, guys who are heavily invested in Americas Bro culture.

I am not saying the website should be taken down, everyone has the right to be as much of an asshole as they choose on the internet. I just wish it wasn’t so celebrated and read.

It’s sites and the comment’s on sites like this that make me want to kick anyone who says feminism is dead. Some defend the post by saying to me “it’s just a joke stop being such a bitch.” Well where is the line between “oh its just a sexist JOKE that degrades women, I don’t mean it” and sexual harassment or assault.
