Texas A&M University to defund GLBT center

Last Wednesday, April 20, 2011, the Texas A&M University student senate passed SB 63-106, a bill that officially supports cutting funding for the GLBT Resource Center in order to provide “Traditional and Family Values” Centers. It mimics this bill that is currently in the works at the Texas state level.

The GLBT Resource Center is a safe space on an extremely traditional campus. It is a place that has kept many students alive, and a place that accepted me long before I could accept myself.

In the past week, a petition against this extraordinarily harmful bill was started and now has more than 1,000 signatures. You can sign the petition and keep up with its progress here.
