high school football player kicked off the team for pink cleats

Last month (October, breast cancer awareness month) many people, including NFL football players wore pink in support of breast cancer patients. In Mississippi, a high school football player wore pink cleats given to him by his great grandmother to practice*. Both his grandmother and great grandmother are breast cancer survivors, and he wore the shoes in their honor. This, apparently, did not go down well with the coach, resulting in confrontation over the cleats and Sheppard’s dismissal from the team. The school denies that this has anything to do with pink specifically – which does not really add up considering he wore cleats of different colors (shown in the video) before with no problems.

I feel really bad for the kid – apparently he needed the football credits to graduate, aside even from getting sacked from the team for trying to honor his grandparents. Now because of some misogynistic moron  (really, why else would you fear pink so much??) he cant play a sport or graduate on time. It appears the guy is suing. I wish him luck.

*sorry, there is no transcript for the video, but the article follows it pretty closely. I’ll try to do the transcript later -just wanted to get the story out there for now
