What We Missed.

On the female victims of the flood in Pakistan.

“Mama grizzlies” and their race problems.

A drug to treat congenital adrenal hyperplasia can also “curb” potential homosexuality.

One fifth of Americans think that Obama is a Muslim. I don’t like to call people stupid, I prefer to disprove their arguments, but this is stupid. And scary.

Have a good weekend folks!

I am really frustrated by how the dexamethasone/congenital adrenal hyperplasia story is being misrepresented. Miriam addressed this in a post several weeks ago.

The drug is used to treat the high in utero androgen levels that cause virilization of genitalia in XX fetuses. Then recent studies suggest it also reduces the more male-typical behaviors that you see in CAH girls. So these researchers have speculated it may also reduce the increased rates of lesbianism that you see in CAH women. But no one has actually shown that dex can curb homosexuality in CAH patients. And no one has even suggested that dex can curb homosexuality in anyone else.

CAH patients are missing a crucial enzyme in their adrenal glands and are extremely hormonally dysregulated beyond their androgen levels. But most CAH girls are not lesbians, and the vast, vast majority of lesbians do not have CAH, and it’s ridiculous to generalize this idea to the entire population. This is not about curing homosexuality in the womb.

The question of whether using a drug off-label, in utero, before you can tell if the fetus is even affected, just so you can “normalize” their genitalia and behavior is truly something worth discussing. But I really feel that most of the progressive media has distorted the truth of this story into something so alarmist that the true issues at hand cannot even be meaningfully addressed.

    Barack Obama.

Let’s see. Obama’s father was a Muslim. Right?

It follws that his son is a Muslim. Right?

A Muslim cannot renounce his religion. Right?

If the three statements are true – I am ready to be corrected – then the 20% are right.

    No?

The real thing they are saying here is: “He’s Muslim because he’s black.”

      Huh?

Barack Obama’s father was a Muslim. That is correct.

However, his father abandoned him before the age of three, and saw him only one other time before his death.

It does not follow that his son is a Muslim, in that Barack Obama was raised by his Christian mother and Christian grandparents. He is also avowedly a Christian.

Muslims can renounce their religion, too, such that one can cease to be a Muslim. However, given that Barack Obama has never claimed to be a Muslim there is no need to renounce something that was never his religion.

      The 20% are dead wrong.

      So no.

Maybe it’s just me, but I would tend to think that the most important distinction between a Muslim and a non-Muslim is whether or not they worship Allah according to the teachings of Muhammad, which Obama does not.
But, as Colin Powell pointed out back when Obama was still running for the office, why would it matter if he was? The constitution doesn’t say that to be elected President, a person must be, “a natural born citizen… the age of thirty-five years, and been fourteen years a resident within the United States. And also a Christian.”
