Going Balls Out for Abortion Funding.

As most of us know, it hasn’t been a great week (or month, or few decades) for abortion access. Millions of women across the country still have little to no access to abortion care because they can’t afford it and dangerous policies like the Hyde Amendment stops them from gaining access. Well, it looks like the National Network for Abortion Funds is doing something about it, and Feministing has decided to join in on the fun.

Anti-Choice Democrats Receive Death Threats from Anti-Choicers

Considering the history of intimidation, violence and that “pro-lifers” have created in the name of their plight, I wasn’t too surprised to find that anti-choice Democrats have begun to receive death threats from their fellow anti-choicers after voting for the health care bill.
Despite the fact that the Executive Order was, in fact, a pretty damn big disappointment to the reproductive justice movement, it apparently wasn’t good enough for anti-choicers and other Tea Party health care reform haters who have not only made threats but taken action against Democratic lawmakers across the country. At least 10 have sought extra security protection.

Maternal mortality and c-sections on the rise

Birth has been making national news lately because of the release of recent data indicating continuing upward trends in maternal mortality and c-section rates.
Jessica mentioned the recent California report that exposed the rise in maternal morality in the state. But this problem isn’t just in CA, it’s national.
The New York Times reported this week that the US c-section rate has reached an all-time high of 32%. That’s more than almost 1 in 3 women giving birth via surgery. C-section has been the most common surgical procedure in US hospitals for a while now, and the increases don’t seem to be slowing down.
