Women in the World Summit

When I wasn’t being knocked over by the wind or drowned in a puddle this weekend, I spent some of my time at the Daily Beast’s Women in the World summit. It had a ridiculously star-studded and smart line-up of news anchors (Katie Couric and Diane Sawyer, among them), activists (Edna Adan Ismail, Leymah Gbowee, Jacqueline Novogratz etc.), and politicians (Hillary Clinton, Queen Rania of Jordan, Madeleine Albright etc.) talking about everything from girls’ education to terrorism to economic empowerment to cell phone technology.
There’s ample video footage of the highlights over at the Daily Beast for those who didn’t get the opportunity to attend, including this moving testimony by Mu Sochua, a member of the Cambodian parliament:

When Hillary Clinton was first lady, she’d taken a photo with Sochua at her request, as a gesture to show the US was paying attention and support her efforts. Now, Sochua said, she faces the prospect of jail time soon. “Secretary Clinton,” she said, “may I take another picture with you?”
Once again, no transcript available on this one. If anyone has time, feel free to put in comments. Thanks, in advance.
