Former Bush Attorney Charged With Trying To Kill His Wife

I think I’m now committed to the destruction of “traditional marriage.”

I know this is nearly a week late, but thought it was still worth posting. The AP reports that

John Michael Farren, who served as deputy counsel to President George W. Bush, has been charged with strangulation and attempted murder after allegedly choking his wife and beating her with a flashlight.

Anyone find it problematic that a wife-beater has “counseled” one of the most powerful men on the planet?

Police said Farren attacked his wife at their New Canaan home Wednesday night. According to police, she passed out during the attack but regained consciousness and fled with their children to the house of a neighbor, who called 911. There, police found her bleeding from her head, face and body.

My sexist unconscious is struggeling with the desire to victim-blame a woman who married a man who tried to kill Iraq and several other countries, who similarly, yet metaphorically, “passed out during the attack but regained consciousness and fled with their children to the house of a neighbor, who called [the UN].” Unfortunately, in the case of Iraq, no one picked up.

Last,

The Wall Street Journal identified his wife as ______________, a lawyer with ______ in Washington, D.C., who represents _________ before the _______________.

(Omissions by yours truly) Ok, seriously AP and Wall Street Journal? We know that anyone can simply google Farren and find out all the little facts about his wife and then devise an entire documentary in their minds to satisfy their cubicle fantasies, but is it really ethical for powerful publications to support that process? She’s a VICTIM of a very embarassing attack. I may be wrong, but I doubt that this clearly powerful and influential woman wants the ENTIRE world knowing her personal shit.
