Thank You Thursdays: Party People

Thanks to all of our amazing readers and friends who came out last night for the holiday shindig. A couple of my favorite moments of the night:

  • Meeting Miranda from the awesome blog Women’s Glib. It’s run by a crew of high school baby geniuses.
  • Talking with my pal Ruthie about freelancing, the book industry, Liberia, and babies.
  • Toasting Juan Carlos, a lawyer from Queens who did some guest lecturing in a women’s studies class and started with “I’m a feminist.”
  • Talking about why feminism isn’t about women and it takes courage to be cliche with Martha (college panel planning juggernaut), Maya (community contributor), and Arnie (amazing).
  • Toasting Samhita on finishing her master’s thesis. Now if we can just get her to start publishing excerpts in a series on Feministing, right?! (I’m also not convinced that Samhita appreciated the light up Santa hat that I bought for her. Anyone else skeptical?)
  • Talking with an awesome high school teacher who uses “prayer time” at her Jewish private school to discuss gender issues, often drawing on Feministing posts.
  • Toasting Vanessa, the party planner, rockstar co-founder, and quiet brilliance behind much of Feministing.
  • Can you tell I was into toasting last night?
  • Talking with Twanna of Funky Brown Chick about blogging and exposure, and her awesome actor buddy, John, about doing what you love.
  • Talking with Amelia from Equal Writes about all the amazing work that is going on at Princeton (“the final frontier,” as Samhi put it, when it comes to gender dynamics), intergenerational feminism, and pompous assholes. When Samhi, V, and I referenced SWV (pictured), the age difference became apparent. In other words, we’re getting old.
