Fox News: Conservative women are more scrutinized by the media

Not only is Fox News doing ridiculous high school popularity polls between Nancy Pelosi and Sarah Palin (in which shockingly, Fox News viewers favored Palin over Pelosi), but co-host Gretchen Carlson adds that Pelosi still doesn’t get much “scrutiny” because “if you’re a conservative woman, you get more attacks.”

In response, Media Matters put together some of the lovely references that Fox has made towards Pelosi, rehashed by Think Progress. Let’s see…

FBI: Increase in anti-gay hate crimes, racist crimes remain high


New data from the FBI shows a 11 percent increase in hate crimes based on sexual orientation. Racially motivated hate crimes were down less than 1 percent and remain the largest category – with nearly 5,000 incidents in 2008.
Think Progress points out that the FBI will now start to record hate crimes motivated by gender and gender identity due to the passage of the Matthew Shepard and James Byrd, Jr., Hate Crimes Prevention Act.

You have to love the Daily Mail, which can take any study and make it about how women are nagging shrews.

Working women have long complained that their man doesn’t pull his weight on household chores.
But his lack of effort on the domestic front could actually be a myth created by his partner, researchers have found.
According to a major study, female breadwinners exaggerate their partner’s uselessness around the home because they feel guilty about devoting too much time to their career, and not enough to their role of wife and mother.

Quick Hit: Lambda fights to keep partner benefits in AZ

Lambda Legal has filed a lawsuit to prevent AZ from stripping domestic partner benefits from gay and lesbian state employees.

Arizona lawmakers included a provision stripping domestic partner health benefits from state employees as part of a last-minute budget deal signed by Governor Jan Brewer in September, while retaining spousal health benefits for heterosexual workers.

More on Kate Moss and “Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels”

So as you know, Kate Moss said in a WWD interview that “nothing tastes as good as skinny feels.” In fact, she says it’s her motto.
Now the model is being criticized for her statement by British anti-eating disorder organizations:
Mary George of British eating-disorder charity Beat notes, “Comments like this make it even more difficult for young people struggling with an eating disorder.” Moss’s agents issued a statement explaining that the quote was taken out of context adding, “For the record, Kate does not support this as a lifestyle choice.”
Of course she doesn’t, it’s just her motto. Sigh.
