Miriam’s Feministing Story

I’m about a year late on this one, but the other’s all posted videos of their Feministing Stories last year: Jessica, Samhita, Courtney, and Ann
Jessica actually introduced me to the blog in her Feministing story video. Aww.
Transcript after the jump!

Hi everyone.
I’m Miriam. I decided to record my feministing story about a year late. If you remember last March all the Feministing editors decided to record the story of how they got involved with Feministing. I just got a camera, so now I’m able to record my story.
I found Feministing at my first job out of college at the National Latina Institute for Reproductive Health. The person who had the computer before me had Feministing on her favorite’s list in the browser and that’s how I first found feministing. From the first day I found the site I was hooked and it was the main blog I read for a long time.
When about three months later I met Jessica at a conference, the National Advocates for Pregnant Women. I was totally a star struck fan and kind of freaked out. But she was really great and gracious and did not make me feel like an idiot for falling over myself. From that conference I started my blog, www.radicaldoula.com.
From there I started a relationship with Feministing through Jessica. I came on and guestblogged for a week while she was on vacation with Cara from www.thecurvature.com. Then around December of 2008 I ran into Jessica at a party in NYC and she asked “why don’t you write for us full time?” and I said alright!
And that began my joining Feministing as a full-time contributor, I’d been guest posting since the vacation stint. It’s been an amazing ride and I am so happy to be part of this community.
That’s my feministing story!
